Central Forest of Dean Walks

These are some of the walks in the Central Forest area See Chris and Lindy for details of all the walks detailed below we either have laminated sheets a leaflet or guide book detailing the walk which we can lend you.

Beechenhurst Lodge is about 3½miles From the Rock B&B on the B4426 and is the location of the Sculpture trail. Chris and Lindy Can provide directions
and offers Various waymarked trails up to 4½miles
Beechenhurst Lodge is set in the forest on the former site of Speech House Colliery. It consists of a cafe and small shop where maps and tourist information can be obtained. From Beechenhurst lodge the famous Sculpture Trail and less famous Speculation trail can be explored. There is a charge for the car park.

Cannop ponds walks 1 ½to 3 miles
On the other side of the main road but close to Beechenhurst Lodge - Cannop ponds were formed in the 19th century when Cannop Brook was dammed to provide power to drive the Park End Iron works. Today they form a tranquil picnic environment and starting point for several trails around the ponds and walks going further a field as well as a home for the introduced Mandarin Ducks. Free Parking there are short walks round the ponds and some waymarked trails up to a few miles

Cyril Hart Arboretum Less than a mile walk or starting point for longer walks
A mile further on from Cannop Ponds is the Cyril Hart Arboretum which features 180 specimen trees labelled and over 400 others created around an easy and pleasant walk which is less than a mile. Free parking this can also be the starting point for longer walks while here a walk to the speech house lake is recommended for which we have a guide.

Longer walks 8½to 12/13 miles
The Jarrold Pathfinder guide (available on loan from Chris and Lindy) Walk number 23 is 8.5 miles and covers the key areas to be seen around the central forest of Dean. It is possible to Get to this walk on foot from the Rock B&B by using the Wysis Way this would extend the walk to about 11to 12/13 miles
