The Symonds Yat area offers some breathtaking Scenery and is a huge draw for tourists all over the world, not just the UK. We moved to the area 8 years ago and have been keen to share our interest in the area with our guests since then. There are also many outdoor activities available to visitors here such as Canoeing, Rock Climbing, River Cruises, The chance to try a hand pull ferry, Fishing, Orienteering, Geo-caching, Lama trekking, Bird watching at the RSPB viewpoint and Fantastic walks -for us and our dogs! The area extends for some 35 square kilometres to include the hamlet of Goodrich, Kearn Bridge, the Doward, in Herefordshire and Hillersland and English Bicknor in the Forest of Dean.
Yat Rock – is the most visited attraction in Gloucestershire’s Forest of Dean and is arguably the finest viewpoint in Southern England offering impressive views into Herefordshire and South Wales. The Coldwell Cliffs which are the home of the Peregrine Falcons can be seen from the viewpoint which has RSPB guides there to help you see them from Easter till October. The tree lined top of these cliffs can also be seen from the garden of The Rock Bed and Breakfast which is 1-200ft higher than Yat Rock itself.which is around 400 ft above the river. The view point is a very pleasant 25 minute wooded walk from the B&B.
A pleasant walk from the B&B is Symonds Yat East - In the lower Wye Valley in Herefordshire. By road it is located down a steep narrow road but once there you are rewarded with a beautiful setting. Here there has been human habitation since the time of saber-tooth tigers! remains of which have been found in the caves on the western side of the River. There are several places to eat here and a canoe hire company as well a a river cruise operator. A cycle track following the route of the old railway line called the peregrine path runs from here to Monmouth.
Symonds Yat walks - there are many varied walks in this area ranging form Woodland to rolling hills we have several we have prepared and others that are published. see The Hill Fort Walk
