King size beds in a Forest of Dean self catering studios

Talking to some guests last week I realised that many people specifically search for Bed and Breakfasts around the Forest or Symonds Yat that offer King Size double beds.  Last year after it became apparent that the silent night mattresses we had were beginning to Fail and customers were mentioning the fact the edges were no longer firm. We were a little surprised as they were only 4 years old and probably only used for about 150 nights a year. So we replaced the three King size and the one standard double mattress we have on the four poster bed with  luxurious Sealy Windermere mattresses. These are British made in Cumbria and actually the same mattresses that the large London Hotels use, The Spring systems are designed to be initially soft but tension up as more pressure is applied. On top of the springs is a layer of Memory foam.  The effect is very good they offer a firm but soft mattress to sleep on. Guests are very impressed with these new mattresses many saying they rarely find a hotel bed that is this comfortable and several guests have taken details so they can replace their mattress with one of these. They are available from high stret bed shops at between £500 and £600 pound.

King size beds can be found in our valley view “studio rooms” Clearwell and Ruardean and our forest view Ross room.  The Ross room which is a dog friendly room has oak floors and one issue is that the divan base is on castors so as you sit on the bed it can slide a little across the floor. To combat this I made up some wedges from a small piece of square plastic cable trunking pushed into a small diameter bicycle inner tube. This works very well and rigidly hols the bed to the floor. Another issue we had with these mattresses is that they are very deep and our fitted sheets didn't fit too well so we replaced them with flat sheets.
