Stay at The Rock Bed and Breakfast

The Rock B&B offers friendly family run award winning accommodation on the outskirts of Coleford in the Royal Forest of Dean near Symonds Yat Rock. The Rock is ideal for singles, couples or groups of up to 14 people in seven en-suite rooms.  The Rock is a great location for those seeking a short break in some inspirational countryside with views to the forest at the front and spectacular far reaching vistas to the rear

The Bed and Breakfast is Located at 600ft in the National Forest Park and is also on the edge of the Wye Valley ANOB (Area of Outstanding National Beauty) a short walk from one of the finest viewpoints in southern England. It provides very easy access all the sights and activities in both the Forest and the Wye Valley. Making it a special place to stay.

An Inn since the late 1500’s, The Rock is now a private house offering bed and breakfast in contemporary styled purpose built hotel standard en-suite rooms. The B&B rooms are in two annexes to the owner’s house. This arrangement allows you to come and go as you please as each room has direct access to the outside.

Breakfast is served in an informal atmosphere in the bright and airy breakfast room with flexible seating arrangements for couples to groups. A wood burner adds atmosphere on those crisp autumnal and winter mornings. Our meat products are sourced from local butchers.  Our wholesome Bread comes from a local artisan bakery using the same ovens and techniques since the 1900’s. Lindy produces her own vegetarian, gluten free sausages for our full English vegetarian options which are prepared in line with the vegetarian society standards.  Increasingly popular are our lighter options as not everyone can manage a full English for the duration of a stay with us. Dog Friendly


Three of the Seven rooms are Dog Friendly and four rooms are dog free for those with allergies. All rooms have their own Front door making it easy to bring dogs in and out. Check out our dog friendly rooms.



Bright and Airy Breakfast room with flexible seating arrangements. enjoy various Light options or a full English or Vegetarian breakfast alternative using Lindy’s homemade sausages.

The View


The Valley View Studio Rooms and Bicknor single room offer absolutely breathtaking views across the garden over open countryside , woodlands and Malvern Hills.



To the front of the property lies the Forest of Dean with miles of footpaths leading down to the River Wye and the impressive Symonds Yat Rock. It’s a perfect holiday walk area, with good Wye Valley walks.



Cycle tracks around High Meadow woods start from the Door with cannop cycle tracks about 3 miles away. Secure cycle storage and bike wash is also available for guest use. The perfect cycling holiday near The Wye Valley and The Forest-of-Dean.



The Forest-view rooms are located in an annex at the front of the property with woodland views . Each pair of rooms can suite together to produce a double and twin room with one outer door. We have some lovely pet friendly rooms.

Hot Tub


The Hot tub is available from Easter to October for guest use. The Hot tub is booked in half hour slots per couple.

  • Forest of Dean Accommodation

    The rock is superb accommodation that provides a lovely escape from the day-to-day grind. Comfortable beds and a well-cooked English breakfast isn't all we have to offer. Our bed and breakfast based in the Forest of Dean has miles of endless countryside walks, tourist attractions and sights to see. It's simple stunning here, and you really do need to experience it for yourself.   • Walks and cycle trails in Mailscot woods start from the door. Several impressive viewpoints are within walking distance. Ordinance survey maps are difficult to use in the forest areas as the tracks change so regularly on account of forestry commission workings so The Rock produce their own guides which guests are welcome to borrow.
    Wildlife abounds here, a survey a few years ago showed the woods opposite the Rock B&B have one of the highest densities for Deer and Wild boar in the entire forest. Popular with Bird watchers is the RSPB peregrine view point a 20 minute walk through the woods at Symonds Yat and the peregrine falcon viewpoint located there is manned from Easter to October. The experts here can show you the peregrines and if you are a keen birder they can tell you what’s about in the whole area.
    The Rock is one of the few Accommodation providers in the forest of dean and wye valley to run a Hot tub for Guests use. It is booked out to couples for half hour sessions at peak times of use, just book a time slot at breakfast and then you can relax in a 40 degree massaging hot tub after a day’s excursion.
    The forest towns of Coleford, Cinderford, and Lydney, are within easy driving distance from The Rock B&B, as are the historic and tourist towns of Monmouth and Ross on Wye. The Rock is also popular with it guests attending weddings at Clearwell Castle, and various venues at Symonds Yat east and even Flanesford Priory. A huge number of activities close by including canoeing, climbing, shooting, Goape with crazy golf etc are nearby.
